The all Sky Blues will embark to win the season’s inaugural title, the Walton Federation Cup Football tournament, when Abahani Limited Dhaka will take on the Chittagong Abahani Limited in the final today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium at 7:30pm.
Drago Mamic, head coach of Abahani Limited of Dhaka was very discontented due to the tight schedule with the final, as he put across his disappointments in the pre-match press conference yesterday at the BFF Bhaban and most of his address with the problem of the match schedule.
Mamic said, “We are preparing in the bed, because of the schedule of the football federation made us to play three matches in five days. Big problem for us, we are just fighting to recover.”
“Actually 24 hours are not enough to play a match, if we had to play the match yesterday (Sunday), I don’t think I would be able to field eleven players on the pitch,” said Drago Mamic.
“I am proud to be the coach of the team that is in the final but not like this way. In the half time of the semifinal match, three, four players telling me, coach, we can’t resist anymore. This can happen tomorrow (today). After one game you need minimum 72 hours to prepare your team for next game. I think whoever made the schedule made mistake.”
But the Croatian coach also expecting his team will recover by tomorrow – “The condition now is not good but I hope that they would recover before the final tomorrow.”
About the today’s opponents, Mamic said, “I saw many teams but unfortunately I did not see Chittagong Abahani. I heard they (Ctg Abahani) are also strong team that’s why we will be trying to give our maximum to what we can do at this moment. But it will be difficult because they will also give their maximum to win this cup. I’m expecting a very hard battle on the field.”
Saiful Bari Titu, the counterpart of Drago Mamic, said, “It is great to qualify in the final and to play the final is not only to follow the custom but to win the match, so we are highly expecting that our approach will to perform at the highest level.”
Titu also optimistic about his team’s motivation as he said, “They had the taste of winning a trophy, when they won the Independence Cup last season, in this respect to win the trophy they will do their best.”
“Actually, usually pressure is never good to play good game, but in some respects it is good to focus on the game, it means, players think about the match, they are professional players, played in highest level for big clubs, if they can perform well that is benefit to them, we tried to motivated boys in different ways, ” said Titu replying to a query.
“Abahani of course are a good team, no doubt, they are the defending champions, playing against some strong side s in the AFC Cup were great advantage for them. We know the final will not easy, so we will also give our best,” Titu expressed their outlook to play the final with their best effort.
