While a terrorists attack into the crowds on the London Bridge took the nation by storm, the cricket is safe here with the participating teams and fans coming from different countries facing no hassle from the security personnel.
In Bangladesh extra security means hazardous to the people trying to enter to the stadium to watch the game. But at The Oval where Bangladesh are playing against Australia, fans entered into the stadium without any trouble as the security personnel checked them in disciplined and gentle manner.
“We feared for a tough security and hassle. But while we are trying to enter the stadium, they checked us in very somber manner what we never saw in Bangladesh,” said Ahmed Kamal who came from Bangladesh to watch the Bangladesh’s match in the ICC Champions Trophy.
“Even in normal day, I face various difficulties to watch the cricket in stadium in Bangladesh as we have very tight security. However it’s fine here.”
The light security doesn’t however mean that the England and Wales Cricket Board and ICC don’t care off it. Everything is in the place and the security is so systematic that no one could get away with after any occurrence. The whole city is under CCTV control as everything is monitoring from the central. So there is no way to leave unscathed after doing any wrong incident here.
When the attack on the London Bridge was going on, the police came here in short notice and protected the area from more casualties, leaving the three terrorists shot dead.
However there was fear that the attack might affect the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy. But everything is calm here and going on in disciplined manner and if somebody comes here from the abroad without knowing the incident of the terrorist attack, he would never imagine that something happened here.
The security barrier was installed near London Bridge but just one day after the attack it was withdrawn.
The tube train, the most convenient transport, for which the London is famous is coming and leaving in time amid the heightened security to make the life normal for the citizen. The fans however caught the train from different part of the London to support their team. Even some fans of Bangladesh came from USA to enjoy the game. There is a number of Australian fans also though they were comfortably outnumbered by Bangladeshi fans.
“The security is excellent here. I thought I’ll be checked in every part of the city but no one is there to check me until I came to the stadium premises,” said Nicky Hault, a fan coming from Australia to cheer up his team.
The Australian fan however said like his captain Steven Smith that he thought Tamim Iqbal would be X factor to determine the result in Bangladesh’s way.
“I like his (Tamim) batting. When he bats, he is like a boss. I think Australia is favourite but if they can’t neutralize Tamim, they have to pay for it.”
But he believes, Bangladeshi bowlers won’t pose any threat to the Australia batsmen.
“They will smash your bowlers out of the park. We have got some very good hitter who knows how to demoralise the bowlers’ right from the words go.”
