DU goes on 39-day vacation
Dhaka University (DU) went into a 39-day academic vacation on the occasion of summer and Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday, said a university press release on Saturday.
The vacation will continue till July 9, said the release, adding that the academic activities will remain closed till July 9 while administrative activities will remain closed from June 22 to July 1.
The classes will resume on July 10 while the administrative activities will resume on July 2, the release added. DU annual senate session on June 17 The annual senate session of Dhaka University (DU) will be held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus at 11 am on June 17.
Annual budget of the university for 2017-2018 fiscal year will be placed at the meeting, said DU press release here today. 
DU Vice-chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique will chair the meeting, the release added.

BRAC University holds seminar on budget
BRAC Business School (BBS) on Sunday organised a seminar on “National Budget FY-18” at the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN) Centre of BRAC University in the capital’s Mohakhali, says a press release. 
The seminar reviewed the budget for the fiscal year 2017-18. The aim of this event was to make attendees aware of the different aspects of the budget. The challenges regarding implementation of the budget were also discussed at the seminar.
During the programme, former advisers to a caretaker government Professor Dr Mirza A B Azizul Islam, Professor Dr Akbar Ali Khan and Professor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, a former governor of Bangladesh Bank, shared their insights on the budget of fiscal year 2017-18. They are also faculty members at BRAC Business School.
Dean of BBS Professor Dr Iftekhar Ghani Chowdhury chaired the seminar.
Dr Mirza AB Azizul Islam provided his insights on this year’s budget. He said that terms are unlikely to be realised. He cited the experience of last fiscal budget and said the revised budget is substantially lower than the original one. 
Dr Salehuddin was critical about the development budget. He made retrospective analysis and emphasised that quality of ADP (Annual development programme) is not up to the mark. Dr Akbar Ali Khan emphasised on ensuring good governance for proper implementation of the budget.
Dr Iftekhar Ghani Chowdhury shared contemplation on the FY’18 budget and concluded the program by a vote of thanks.
ULAB student participates in the Model United Nations conferences
Kazi Raihanul Bari Rifat, a student of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh,  participated two conferences, to be specific, “South European Model United Nations 2017” (SEIMUN’17) organised by the United Nations Student Association (UNSA) Andalucía in Granada, Spain from  May 4 to May 7, says a press release.
Additionally, he also joined “Catalonia Model United Nations 2017” (C’MUN) organised by the United Nations Association of Spain (ANUE) in Barcelona, Spain from May 11 to May 14, 2017. He participated at this conference in 2016 and this is his second time being invited to this conference. 

Classes continue at IU amid vacation
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: The regular classes and examinations of various Departments of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia continued amid holy Ramadan vacation due to reduce session jam of the university, IU registrar office source said on Sunday morning.
The teachers of English, Finance & Banking and Computer Science & Engineering Departments of the university are taking classes while various Departments including Law and Muslim Jurisprudence, Bangla, Management, Marketing and other departments also taking their examinations during the vacation.
Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari said we are continuing classes and examinations during the vacation in association with the teachers of various departments due to eliminate session jam of the university.
The university authorities have provided all kinds of facilities including transport and dormitories' for the students to hold classes and examinations, he added.
