RANGPUR: A bus driver was killed and 33 others were injured in a road accident at Domdoma Bridge point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway of the city yesterday.
“The accident occurred when a Rangpur bound passenger bus of ‘Khaleque Enterprise’ from Dhaka and Sirajganj bound passenger bus of ‘Sonar Madina Paribahan’ from Syedpur collided head-on there at 8 am,” said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Thana ABM Zahidul Islam.
Driver of the passenger bus of ‘Khaleque Enterprise’ Anwar Hossain, 40, killed on the spot while 33 others including the other bus driver and helpers of both buses and passengers were injured in the accident.
Police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons with the help of local people and took them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, the OC said, adding that conditions of nine injured persons were stated to be critical. A case was filed in this connection with Kotwali Thana, police said.
