World Environment Day observed in Ctg

The World Environment Day was observed in the city yesterday with a slogan “Connecting people to nature” and “I am with nature, Nature with me.”

Department of Environment (DoE) Chittagong chapter arranged the programme at the city’s Theater Institute. Md Zafar Alam, member (Administration & Planning) of Chittagong Port Authority was the keynote speaker.
 “Every day we destroy the nature, it is our sin. The nature is taking revenge from 70 lakh people of Chittagong. Before industrial revolution nature respected us we respected nature as we did not do any harm to nature,” said Zafar Alam.
 “We have to save our nature for the sake of our planet,” he added.
“We need to build relation with nature to make a beautiful world for our next generation. This year our slogan is ‘Connecting people to nature’ and I am with Nature and Nature with me’ we have to keep it up,” said Azadur Rahman Mallik, director DoE of Chittagong metro in his welcome speech. Masud Karim, director of DoE of Chittagong region chaired the event. 
Sankar Ranjan Saha, additional divisional commissioner of Chittagong was present as chief guest. Md Zillur Rahman Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong District Administration was present as special guest. Dr Kamal Uddin, Professor department of Forestry and Environmental Science, Dr Manzoorul Kibria, Professor department of Zoology of Chittagong University spoke, among others.
