Roads and Highways Department (RHD) of the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry has taken initiative to plant 5.5 lakh trees along the capital’s Airport Road under the beautification programme of the department, reports BSS.
“RHD has initiated to plant 5.5 lakh saplings of different species along the airport road through outsourcing under the beautification increasing programme of the department," said an official release in the capital yesterday.
It also said over the controversy on planting bonsai along the road, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister directed to stop planting it while the department has taken a programme to make the road greenery planting different species of saplings.
The minister also directed the authorities concerned for taking opinions of environmentalists to materialize the programmes as there is no financial involvement of the government in this respect, the release added.
The department has also taken different initiatives to beautify the entrances of the city by planting different species of native plants, it said.
