Four cops apologise to HC

The High Court on Monday exonerated four policemen, including the officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station Mohsin Kabir, from personal appearance before the court over keeping a Jahangirnagar University (JU) student handcuffed while being treated at a hospital, reports UNB.
An HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque passed the order when the four policemen offered unconditional apology before the court over the incident.
The three other policemen are constables Nahid, Sentu and Halim.
The HC also fixed July 9 for the next hearing.
Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru and Anabil Ananda Roy stood for the policemen.
Earlier, on May 29, the High Court summoned the OC and the three other policemen to explain why the JU student was handcuffed while being treated at hospital.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why handcuffing of Nazmul Hossain during treatment should not be declared illegal.
On May 26, two JU students -- Nazmul Hasan Rana and Arafat -- were killed in a road crash on Dhaka-Aricha highway.
Their fellow students put up a barricade on the highway in front of the university demanding immediate punishment of those responsible for the accident.
Police arrested a total of 42 students from the demonstration following a clash.
Police showed them, including Nazmul Hossain, arrested in a case.
