The Bijoy Ekattor Hall authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have suspended eight activists of Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) from the hall for assaulting a student of the university, reports UNB.
The suspended students are Ariful Islam, vice president of DU unit of BCL and a masters student of Linguistics department; Kazi Tanvir Ahmed of Linguistics Department (2nd year); Shamchita Bridge Pranta (2nd year) of Institute of Education and Research; Wahid Anwar Rano of Psychology (2nd year); Ebne Kayes Zia of Marketing Departments (2nd year); Ahsan Habib Sajib of Law (3rd year); Abu Yunus of Islamic studies (3rd year); and Rabiul Islam Rana of Accounting and Information System Departments (3rd year).
In a statement, Hall provost Prof AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan said they took the action against the eight students on Friday evening as the allegations brought against them were proved through CCTV footage.
The hall authorities urged the DU Vice Chancellor to take academic step against them, he said.
Earlier, on Thursday night, a group of BCL activists, led by DU unit BCL vice president Ariful Islam, beat up Ismail Ahmed Mubin, a maters student of Anthropology Department, over a trifle matter. The injured student is undergoing treatment at the university medical centre.
