Two honey collectors sued over Sundarbans fire
Bagerhat: The Forest Department on Thursday night filed a case against two honey collectors over a recent fire incident in Madrassachila area in Sharankhola upazila under the east range of the Sundarbans, reports UNB.
Divisional Forest Officer of Sundarbans (East) Md Saidul Islam said two honey collectors of the area—Md Alam Hawladar, 43, son of Najir Ahmed of Rajapur village in Sharankhola upazila and Al Amin Hawladar, 33, son of Jalil Hawladar of the same village were made accused in the case. Officer-in-charge of Sharankhola Police Station Md Abdul Jalil said they are trying to arrest the accused.
The fire broke out in the area on May 26 which was doused with the help of fire service and local people the following day.
4 lakh metres current net seized
Munshiganj: Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive seized four lakh metres of illegal current nets in the Meghna river near Gazaria in the district on Thursday, reports UNB.
Station Commander of Pagla Coast Guard Lt Commander Sayeed M Kased said, being tipped-off, a team of coast guard conducted a drive in MV Green Water-7 launch and seized 300 packets containing four lakh meters of current net worth of about Tk 90 lakh. Later, the nets were burnt on the bank of the river, added the commander.
Lightning strike kills one

A man was killed by thunderbolt at Ghonpara Batrisrashia village under Narayanpur union of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Thursday evening.
The deceased was identified as Md. Rafiq, 55, son of Riazuddin of the aforesaid area. UP Chairman of Narayanpur Md. Kamal Uddin Hoda said, the incident happened when Rafiq went out of home during a thunder shower around 5.30pm to bring his cattle and goats home. At that time the thunderbolt hit them killing Rafiq and four goats on the spot, he added.
One killed in road accident
NATORE: A man was killed and 10 others injured as a passenger bus fell into a roadside ditch after hitting a van in Gunaihati area on Natore-Pabna highway under Baraigram upazila of the district early yesterday, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Sabuj Mollah, 35, son of Altaf Hossain Mollah, resident of Lalpur Sadar upazila of the district. The accident took place in the area around 5am when a Kushtia bound passenger bus from Dhaka fell into the ditch after hitting the van, leaving the van puller Sabuj dead on the spot and 10 others injured, said Sub Inspector (SI) of Bonpara Police Investigation Center Dayal Banargee.
The van also fell into the roadside ditch and the injured persons were the passengers of the bus, he added.
