3 DU students get Sufia Ahmed scholarship
Three masters’ students of Dhaka University (DU) Islamic History and Culture Department have been awarded with “National Professor Dr Sufia Ahmed Trust Scholarship” for their outstanding academic results. The awardees are Khursheed Alam, Abdullah Al Mamun and Md Abdul Muhit, said a DU press release in the capital yesterday. DU Pro Vice-chancellor (administration) Professor Akhtaruzzaman handed over cheques of the scholarship money among the awardees. Presided over by DU Islamic History and Culture Department Chairman Md Mahfuzul Islam, the function was attended by Student Advisor of the department Professor Md. Mosharaf Hossain Bhuiyan, Professor Md. Ataur Rahman, Professor Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Associate Professor Mohammad Humayun Kabir and Assistant Professor Md. Abdur Rahim, the release added.
ULAB signs MoU with a2i Programme
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Access to Information (a2i) programme on THursday at Prime Minister’s Office in the capital to conduct collaborative research, evaluation, assessment, review, case studies, training, design credible development strategies, joint campaigns etc., using the high quality and niche expertise of the various departments of ULAB, says a press release. Professor Dr H M Jahirul Haque, Vice-chancellor, ULAB and Kabir Bin Anwar, Director General (Administration), Prime Minister’s Office and Project Director, a2i Programme signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
In the MoU ceremony Prof Dr S M Mahbubur Rahman, Head, Department of EEE, Prof Sazzad Hossain, Department of CSE, Dr Samiya A Selim, Associate Professor and Director, CSD, Asif Uddin Ahmed, Asst. Professor & Deputy Director, Academic Affairs were present from ULAB Anir Chowdhury, Policy Adviser, a2i Programme, Dr Ramiz Uddin, Head of Results Management, a2i Programme, Jalal Uddin Ahmed, Admin Specialist, a2i Programme were present from Prime Minister’s Office. A2i Programme is playing a key role in implementing e-service in Bangladesh in coordination with different ministries, Divisions and Directorates of the country. The project has to conduct a wide range of surveys, assessments, evaluation, reviews, thematic studies and develop knowledge products to understand the project results, comprehend citizens’ demand and identify potential areas of intervention and create new services for the underserved citizenry.
Prof Kalimullah made BRUR vice-chancellor
RANGPUR: President and Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Abdul Hamid has appointed Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah as the new Vice-chancellor (VC) of the university, reports BSS.
As per order of the President, a circular singed by Assistant Secretary of Education Ministry Abdus Sattar Mian today said Dr Kalimullah has been appointed as the new VC for BRUR. President Abdul Hamid has appointed Professor Dr Kalimullah as the new BRUR VC for the next four-year term as per clause 10(1) of Begum Rokeya University Ordinance 2009, a press release issued by BRUR here said.
Professor Dr Kalimullah has been working at the Department of Public Administration of Dhaka University since 1984. He has served as chairman of the same department and director-in-charge of Japan Study Centre. In December 2015, he was appointed as pro vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals.
Noted media personality Dr Kalimullah is the founding President of Jatiya Nirbachon Parjobekkhon Parishad (National Election Observation Council). A number of his books and essays on research works have been published at home and abroad, the release added.
