The government has set a target to mobilize a permanent fund under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's "Small Savings Model" through creating cooperative societies with poor families, reports BSS. "Our target is to mobilize a permanent fund under small savings model of the Hon'ble Prime Minister by forming cooperative societies with these families," Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith made the comment while placing the budget for the new financial year before the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday. He said the government has taken steps to select genuine poor, vagrant, beggar families to reduce their poverty through income generating activities under 'Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar (One house one farm) project. In continuation of this, there is a plan to form 60,515 more village development societies by involving 36 lakh poor families along with rehabilitation of 100,000 beggars within next four years, he said. "We plan to involve the beneficiaries of this project in silk farming. To begin with, we have taken steps to extend this programme to 25 upazilas of 20 districts," he said.
