RAJSHAHI” Fisheries experts and extension officials laid stress the need for developing sanctuary to protect fish species including the small indigenous ones in natural water bodies, reports BSS. They viewed sanctuary always contributes a lot towards protecting the native fish species and conserving biodiversity in the Padma river and its tributaries.
The observation came in a daylong training workshop titled “Sanctuary Establishment and Its Importance for Biodiversity Conservation” held in Pirijpur area under Godagari Upazila in the district yesterday.
Department of Fisheries and Fish Production Enhancement through Water Bodies Renovation Project jointly organized the workshop, where 25 fish farmers involved in developing sanctuary of fish in the river of Padma attended.
District Fisheries Officer Subhash Chandra Shaha and Farm Manager Abdul Khaleque addressed the function as the chief and special guests respectively with Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Abul Kalam Azad in the chair.
