Health and Family Planning Minister Mohammad Nasim on Saturday said another 500 beds will be added at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) by the June next year as part of its expansion work, reports UNB. The Health Minister also directed the NICVD authorities to conduct all types of blood tests freely of the patients who take admission at cost-free section of the institute.
The minister was talking to journalists after visiting the cardiovascular institute and hospital on Saturday. He also inquired about the treatment at outdoor department of the institute and passed some time with the patients undergoing treatment at ward.
Later, the minister asked questions about the progress of expansion work of the hospital.Health Minister requested the senior physicians of the hospital to ensure better treatment and services to the patients as government hospitals are the last shelter of poor and middle class people of the country.
Besides, while addressing a view exchange meeting with the physicians, Nasim said global forums discuss Bangladesh's achievement in health sector frequently. “Physicians have a big role to play to carry country's achievement in the health sector forward,” he added. Nasim further said government successfully reduced nurses' crisis across the country and working to reduce physician's crisis.
Later, the minister visited the CCU (Coronary Care Unit), Cath Lab, emergency department and wards of the hospital.
Prof Abul Kalam Azad, Director General for Health Services; Prof Dr Afzalur Rahman, Director of NICVD and the high-ups of the health ministry were present here.
