Leadership skills have an excellent role in sustainable development while we are facing the challenges for the quality services of the people. Considering the global value, we have to start thinking about the leadership skills in our organizations and service sectors as well. Because, the strategic system of sustainable development considers a p
otential for improvement of our leadership skills, particularly regarding in satisfaction of critical needs in the sphere of sustainable development goals (SDGs). On the basis of present development goals, it is realizing to step forwarding the reality and strengthening the capacity of the people based on visionary activity guided by the SDGs. Going through the sustainability leadership program within an organization, we may regulate our development framework and contributes to the process of raising public awareness of sustainable development goals and its achievements in each of the service sectors. So, the time has come to start some processes immediately to develop quality leadership in our organization, specifically with various youth leadership programs in aiming towards achieving sustainable development.
The leadership is a wide array of meaning that varies from person to person since it has become a broad aspect to us. Leadership is a very difficult task to explain it with a single word or sentence. A good leader deserves some unique qualities through which we can differentiate him/her from others generally. The initial purpose of a leader is to promote not only his or her skills, but also to build the capacity of others for appropriate skills (right place for the right people!), mindsets and behavior, so that the leader starts to empower them as an effective agent for social transformation. However, my ideas have been more focused over a discussion where it finds out that all leaders must be identified with a definite goal in life and there is a concrete measurement of success level in their achievement into a meaningful social and, or global value.
So, this has now become an important challenge for us as how to develop and incorporate leadership skills in our lives, and use that changed professional attitude to transform the world. There needs to think about our organizational strategy and operations embedded with the SDG vision, so that we can create an innovative organizational path to develop new skills among the individuals. We have to start nurturing our norms and values in every single work to deliver an optimum interest of the society. As for example in the process, several innovative ideas can be generated after we assemble a good team (expertization-wise!) for a project implementation, declaring more award or acknowledgement for contributing over the leadership role, meditation scopes entire an organization etc. Adapting with these processes, it could open a new dimension in our organizational development since we are committed to contribute to several dynamic targets of the sustainable development goals. Visioning with the SDGs, we assume that an organization would be sustained in the future based on the performance of quality leaders who might bring the concept of social transformation towards achieving sustainable development.
However, organizational culture may be developed in this case and within some essential steps we possess learning process continually to create good leaders for the future. Some ways like-
Changing mindsets: Change is indeed a matter for all emerging leaders who should be guided by ten distinct personal qualities, i.e. honesty, delegate, communication, confidence, commitment, positive attitude, creativity, intuition, inspire and approach. A successful business venture can be tuned up by these qualities of a leader. Quality leaders must satisfy others about their unique personality comprised with these values. To be an extraordinary with the leadership qualities, individual visioning should be inimitable, while we must nurture it within the organizational vision. Peoples’ ability to achieve a value of social transformation should be executed throughout the leaders’ personal qualities and the process distinguishes the leadership path from the general entrepreneurs and, or others. The process of personal development leading to our successful team efforts may work to let our ambiguous emotions and stable a realization of the meaning of real life.
Meditation: If an individual asks to know about the meaning of his or her life, or our existence on the earth, the answer is found mostly different from all. The most striking answer is to make money, and more money with grand honor, power and, or exciting resources in the life- which might be a common goal in our life! However, we can present lots of debates to explore the meaning of life. But, the role of “leadership” can simplify a path towards the meaning of our life, work or a lifespan of the earth. Leadership is not just a way of making money, or making the way of keeping someone superior only with resources. Our misconception between leadership skills and its role are found as very articulated and acute in our organizational culture. In reality, we usually lack in true leaders in tackling the country’s present challenges.
If I think about an organizational culture, I would say the working environment should consist of taking fresh breath to take air and calm me down and remind myself of the leader I am and would like to explore in the most realistic way. However, business leaders and employees should be interested in that culture, but at the same time, it is also very important to know how to design and perform a program integrating with the conventional organizational culture. The following stages are very important in initiating such programs, while we intend to grow up with more successful leaders by inquiring ourselves at first. The fundamental quarries and baseline might be like: 1. Start with the why and the how will come, 2. Organizations support that which supports the organization, 3. Passion is essential but not sufficient. You also need results, 4. Individuals have their own motivations for coming or not coming to the practice of meditation, so design the program accordingly, and 5. One person can change an organization, but lasting change never happens alone.
Practicing ethical value: Ethical leadership is considered as a vital part in organizational leadership development process, because the leadership failure was found as causes of malfunctioning in many big businesses around the world. The five components may be suggested to an organization while these are the ways to build the future for ethical leadership. Some tests are conducted in many organizations in this regard that would be the rightness or wrongness of ethical actions. However, the ethical test consists of asking individual and should answer the following eight questions: 1. Is it legal? 2. Does it comply with my/our rules and guidelines? 3. It is in sync with my personal and our organizational values? 4. Will I be comfortable and guilt free if I do it? 5. Does it match my commitments and promised guarantees? 6. Would I do it to my family or friends? 7. Would I be perfectly okay with someone doing it to me? 8. Would the most ethical person I know do it?
Analyzing these questions, an excellent path can be found for prospective leaders to execute their daily practices where organizations should have a monitoring policy to check everybody’s actions with the above inquiries.
However, the discussion so far, we need a change of a human being that presently requires a strategic action to transform the world. Undoubtedly, the visionary and dynamic targets of SDGs remind us for potential leaders who may take a lead to overcome the upcoming challenges of sustainable development. Change always seeks for a place within the actions and which action comes from, that is most important. We should be more focused and concerned about our global value, where our more consciousness creates reality for driving for a good work within an organization. Even, the “leadership” is still believed as a natural gift by born, but it is up to us as how we perceive our values, our thoughts, our world, our intentions and many more!
