Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon believes that Bangladesh will upgrade their rankings to fifth coupled with ensure the passport to directly play the next World Cup from the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.“It’s tough to say a specific expectation. One and half-a-year back, I told that our main objective is to hold the fifth position in ICC rankings. In that sense, we’re in a good stead. Unfortunately if we could not lose to Afghanistan, we had then every possibility to stay at number fifth position now. But that possibility has not finished yet,” said Nazmul Hassan, who will take off for England to witness the opening match of the Champions League against England today (Sunday).“Champions Trophy is quite different because you see we in Ireland could not start well. At a new environ, we later make our adjustment. Tamim brought the match under control against Ireland in the tri-nation opener,” Papon told media at his residence in the capital city yesterday.
“In England, we don’t know what will be happened in the first match. I think we didn’t play at English condition for the last 10 years. So, time will be needed to get about the wickets and condition. Grounds of the practice matches are not the same as the match. So I think as our team went there one month before the Champions Trophy, they will make their habituation with the condition through these matches,” he added.
The BCB president said that it would be better and easier for them to play the showpiece event if they would be drawn in the Group-B, where Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan are there.
“The group has been unknown for us. Such problem may be happened in case of Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan like us. Actually we are used to play in sub continent condition,” the president said.
