Corruption in banking sector and capital market along with weak implementation of development projects just breed public money wastage, said Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) distinguished fellow and eminent economist Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya.
“If you can’t ensure the quality of the budget allocation, everything would go to the pocket of Haradhan," he said suggesting that discussion over the implementation of the budget is important to avoid the situation.
Debapriya came up with the observation in a program held recently at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building, University of Dhaka. The day-long programme was jointly organised by Parliamentary Caucus on National Planning and Budget, Centre on Budget and Policy of University of Dhaka and Democratic Budget Movement. MA Mannan, state minister for Finance, graced the closing session as chief guest.
Fazle Hossain Badsha, vice president, Parlia-mentary Caucus related to national planning and budget said, "Discussion over budget in national parliament is just a formality. We can’t bring the public voice to the parliament.”
