Cop killed in ‘accidental fire’

SATKHIRA: A constable of Rainagar River Police camp was killed by a bullet 'accidentally fired' from his own gun near Koikhali Forest camp under Shyamnagar upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon, reports BSS.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Shyamnage Police Station Kazi Kamal Hossain said the constable Mirza Hossain, 32, died on-duty while returning to his camp by a trawler after taking part in joint drive of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the River Police against forest bandits in Bashukhali Canal in the Sundarbans.The OC said the constable hailed from Charghat upazila of Rajshahi district met his tragic end on the spot as a bullet accidentally releasedfrom his gun.Meanwhile, the joint team of the BGB and River Police during their drive rescued four fishermen abducted by forest robbers.
