Ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said that the removal of the sculpture on the Supreme Court (SC) premises that resembles Greek goddess Themis was absolutely the decision of the Supreme Court itself. Themis is also known as the “Lady Justice”. “It’s a matter of the SC. The statue has been removed as per the decision of the apex court. The matter is not under the jurisdiction of the Sheikh Hasina government,” he said.
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, made the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting a construction site on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Chandra area of Gazipur.
On a different note, Quader said makeshift shops and illegal establishments will be evicted along the highways to lessen the sufferings of people during Ramadan and Eid. Highway police and district administration have been ordered to take steps in this regard, he added.
