A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Birulia in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, early yesterday, reports UNB. Police said they arrested Muktar Hossain Mukti, an alleged drug and son of Aktar Hossain, from Chotobali Meher area on Thursday. Later, police along with Muktar conducted a drive in the area to arrest his associates in the dead of night, said SM Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire towards police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight. At one stage, Muktar was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the others managed to flee. Three policemen were injured during the gunfight. Police also recovered one foreign made pistol and three rounds of bullets from the spot.
