Preparedness for earthquakes can reduce losses of lives

Experts at a seminar in Rangpur have stressed early preparedness and efficient emergency response systems to ensure proper post-earthquake managements for substantially reducing the extent of losses of human lives, reports BSS. They came up with the opinion at the divisional level seminar on Awareness, training and preparedness: The best ways to cope with earthquake held in the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) on Thursday afternoon.
Rangpur divisional office of Fire Service and Civil Defense organised the event participated by officials, earthquake experts, university teachers and volunteers of different organisations from all over the division. Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed attended the seminar as the chief guest. Head of the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) of Begum Rokeya University (BRU) Dr Emdadul Haque moderated it.
Additional deputy inspector general for Rangpur range of Bangladesh Police Bashir Ahmed, Deputy Director (Local Government) Sultana Pervin, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ruhul Amin Mian and lecturer of the DDM of BRU ATM Zinnatul Basher addressed as special guests.
Divisional deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Asaduzzaman Sheikh delivered the keynote presentation narrating importance of awareness about earthquake and early preparedness for a comprehensive disaster management during and after earthquake.
Zinnatul Basher said the losses of human lives could be reduced through providing training on basic first aids and disaster preparedness to the commoners to enable them assisting the victims timely on the spots during and after earthquake.
