Abahani hope to foil BU’s challenge

Sports Reporter

Defending champions Abahani Limited in a bid to retain the title will face Brothers Union hurdle in quarterfinal of Walton Federation Cup today when the match will be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium at 6pm.

Abahani Limited, who could not start their Federation Cup campaign with winning note, as they just drew one all draw with the newly promoted SAIF Sporting Club, finally made their room in the quarterfinal as Group A champions defeating Muktijoddha in the next match to move on.
However, the Sky Blue are fully ready to go forward with crossing all the hurdles and to clear the way to win the title while manager Sattayajit Das Rupu told this correspondent yesterday that they are thinking to go ahead match by match.
“Actually we think to go match by match, right now I am thinking about just tomorrow’s  match against Brothers, then we will go for next but obviously the ultimate target to retain the title, what every team wants.”
“It is knockout phase, every match is do or die encounter, so there is no option but to win. Brothers are very good team, we have to prove playing better on the ground, in fact in this stage all teams are strong opponents,” Rupu replied to a query.
Amer Khan, counterpart of Rupu said, “We have been trying to move forward, as it is quarterfinal match and the opponents will be Abahani, so will have to proceed tactically against the strong side.”
“It is new season, we have to play with new players and new coach, in reality we made our journey afresh with all the newcomers and a young side,” said Amer Khan.
“But I think we will have to create chances playing with strategically and if the boys will avail the opportunities which will come their ways, we have also every prospect to win the match,” Amer explained their expectation with the match.
