Magura: At least 20 people were injured in infighting between the supporters of two factions of Binodpur union unit Awami League under Mohammadpur upazila of the district on Wednesday, reports UNB. Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, said there had been a long-standing dispute between two local Awami League leaders - Bahaj Uddin and Nur Alam - over establishing supremacy in the area.
As a sequel to the feud, the supporters of both the groups chased and counter-chased each other over a trivial matter. Later, they locked into a clash that left at least 20 people from both sides injured. During the clash, both the groups vandalised at least five houses of Kalim Uddin, Alim Uddin, Arab Ali, Mashiar Rahman and Fashiar Rahman and looted valuables from those houses. On information, police rushed to the spot and lobbed at least 10 rounds of rubber bullets to bring the situation under control. Police then arrested at least 16 people from the spot, the OC added. A case was lodged with this connection.
