2 killed in Ctg road crash
Two people were killed and another was injured when a human hauler overturned near the Jetty Gate No 5 of Chittagong Port in the city yesterday.
Police said the accident took place around 6:30 am when the human hauler turned turtle as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving two killed on the spot and one injured.
The bodies of the two deceased—Rakib Hossain, 17, and Amzad Hossain, 40, an employee of Chittagong EPZ—were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue, said Sazzad Kamal, sub-inspector of Port Police Station.

Tk 27.5 lakh allocated for iftar at Baitul Mukarram
Bangladesh Islamic Foundation (BIF) this year allocated Taka 27.5 lakh to feed iftar to 3,000 fasting people per-day at the national mosque Baitul Mukarram during the holy month of Ramadan.
“A total of Taka 27.5 lakh has been allocated this year for iftar at Baitul Mukarram during the holy month of Ramadan. All preparations have already been taken to feed around 3000 people per day,” Deputy Director (mosque and market) Mohammad Rafiqul Islam told BSS on Wednesday. He also said traditional ifter items, including muri (fried rice), boot (gram), piaju (onion-lentil fritter), sarbot and fruits will be served.

6 Jamaat men held in Ctg
Detectives in a drive arrested six leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Sirajudoullah Road in on Wednesday night in Chittagong.
The arrestees are-Abul Foyez, ameer of Satkania upazila unit Jamaat-e-Islami, Tarek Hossain, Rezaul Karim, Ahmed Safa, Sarwar Kamal and Forman Shikdar.
Tipped off, a team of DB police raided on a house and arrested them while holding a clandestine meeting around 9:45 pm, said AMM Humayun Kabir, additional deputy commissioner of DB. Police also recovered some books, leaflets, posters and calendars from their possession.

Shrimp fry seized in N’ganj
A team of Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 20 lakh shrimp fry from Kanchpur Bridge area of Naryanganj early Wednesday.
Sources at the Coast Guard headquarters said acting on a tip-off, an operational team of Coast Guard from Pagla Station conducted a raid at Kanchpur Bridge area at around 1am. The law enforcers searched a boat and recovered around 20 lakh shrimp fry, kept inside 100 drums, worth about Tk 40 lakh. However, no one was found on the boat, said Lt Col Sayeed M Kashem, station commander of the CG station, Pagla.
The seized shrimp fry were released into the Meghna River in presence of the fisheries officers.

Fire guts 11 shops in Ctg
At least 11 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Molovir Dokan of Satkhania upazila in the district early Wednesday.
Fire service officials said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop in the market around 2 am and it quickly engulfed the adjacent shops. “None was injured in the fire”, they added.
Two units of fire fighters from Satkhania rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 5 am.
The extant loss of the fire could up to Taka six lakh.

Swachip holds council in Gazipur
The  tri-annual council of  Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad, Gazipur district unit was held at Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital auditorium on Wednesday evening.  
Dr Ali Haider Khan, president of the Gazipur district unit presided over the programme while the president of the Swachip central committee professor Dr M.Iqbal Arslan was the chief guest. Secretary of the central committee Professor Dr MA Aziz and organising secretary of Dhaka division unit Dr Mohammed Abu Zafar Chowdhury Biru were the special guest. 
Dr Amir Hossain Rahat was selected as the president and Dr. Sushanta Kumar Sarkar selected as the general secretary   of Gazipur district unit for the next three years.
