A modern cyber centre and archive was opened at Fine Arts Faculty Library of the Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday after the name of Abinta Kabir, a victim of Holey Artisan terrorist attack.
DU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the 'Abinta Kabir Cyber Centre and Archive', set up with the assistance of Abinta Kabir Foundation.
Presided over by Fine Arts Faculty Dean Professor Nisar Hossain, the inaugural function was attended by Abinta Kabir Foundation Chairperson Nilu Rawshan Morshed, Abinta's mother Ruba Ahmed, other family members and teachers and students of DU Fine Arts Faculty. Later, a memorial meeting on Abinta was held and a documentary was screened on her life and works in the function here. Addressing the memorial meeting, DU VC Prof Arefin said Abinta's dream of doing something for the underprivileged people and her dedication to this end prove her patriotism.
"But we are such ill-fated that we could not save her," he added. Recalling Abinta's memory, her mother Ruba Ahmed became emotional and burst into tears in the function. Former DU student Abinta Kabir was killed in the terrorist attack at Holey Artisan Bakery, an upscale restaurant at Gulshan in the capital last year. She was one of the youngest victims of the attack that left 23 people dead, including two police officers and 17 foreigners.
