Noted Dhallywood filmmaker Purnendu Acharjee alias PA Kajol died at a city hospital early hours of Thursday. He was 54. He was suffering from liver cirrhosis for a prolonged period. His daughter Driti Acharjee said that her father breathed his last at ZH Shikder Women’s Medical College Hospital in Rayer Bazar area of Dhaka, at around 12:20 am on May 25. His debut movie was ‘Shabbash Bangali’ and he directed many other films, including ‘Ek Takar Bou’, ‘Amar Praner Swami’, Swami-Stri’r Wada’, ‘Piriter Agun Jwale Dwigun’, ‘Mukti’ ‘Gono Dushmon’, ‘Vondo Ojha’, ‘Valobasa Ajkal’ and ‘Chokher Dekha’.
Kajol’s body was cremated at Sree Sree Baradeswari Mohashoshan at the capital’s Rajarbagh yesterday. He has left behind a son and a daughter.
To note, Kajol won the National Film Award in the best short film category for ‘Godhuli’ in 1991.
