UNHCR for partnership with DU on refugee laws

Country Representative of UNHCR Bangladesh Shinji Kubo has emphasised the importance of forging a partnership that will facilitate students to further explore the International Refugee Protection Law and become pioneers in this field, reports UNB.
“While the world is going through an unprecedented level of forced displacement, this partnership will facilitate the students to further explore the International Refugee Protection Law and become pioneers in this field,” Kubo underpinned stating the significance of academic course on the issue.
On completion of a six-month academic course on International Refugee Law and UNHCR Protection Mandate and its relation with International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law, 25 students from Law Department of Dhaka University received certificates from the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR and Dhaka University yesterday.
A new MoU for the 2017-2018 for the same course has been signed between UNHCR and the Law Department of Dhaka University (DU).
Country Representative of UNHCR Bangladesh and Chairman of Law Department Prof Dr Borhan Uddin Khan singed the MoU on behalf of UNHCR and Law Department of Dhaka University respectively, according to the UNHCR office in the capital.
The certificate distribution ceremony was attended, among others, by Dean, Department of Law, Dhaka University Prof Dr Md Rahmat Ullah, Senior Protection Officer, UNHCR Khaled Fansa, DU Prof Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah and the students of the DU Law Department. 
Prof Khan said, “I believe the cooperation between Dhaka University Law Department and UNHCR for dissemination of International in general and refugee law in particular would continue in the years to come.”
UNHCR Course Manager and Lecturer K Fansa said this course is part of UNHCR's global demarches to build the capacity of national academics highlighting the humanitarian and legal aspects of forced displacement.
The UNHCR conducted the academic course between November, 2016 and May, 2017 through the legal experts of the organisation, including other guest speakers from ICRC and UN  agencies.
The core aim of the course was to facilitate the students to acquire further academic and practical knowledge on the international refugee law and to enhance the international protection of refugees and asylum seekers in the country.
