Jim Carrey walked onstage for his interview with Jimmy Kimmel on Monday night, purposefully waiting to sit down until it “got uncomfortable” as he waited for people to get “tired” of applauding.
When he finally did sit, the actor spoke about how he thinks about himself differently now.
“Don’t get me wrong - Jim Carrey is a great character and I was lucky to get the part,” he said. “But, I don’t think of that as me anymore.”
Carrey continued his explanation to Kimmel: “I used to be a guy who was experiencing the world, and now I feel like the world and the universe experiencing a guy.”
When asked whether that’s why he has his beard, Carrey said he feels like everywhere he goes, people talk about his beard.
“They can’t really think about anything else,” said the actor. “And wherever I show up, it becomes this story. It’s a bigger star than me at this point. It has its own Twitter.”
Then, after his musings about life and the universe, Carrey added in his trademark humor.
“The question is not, ‘Why are you growing a beard?’ The question is, ‘Why am I growing a beard and still shaving my b****?’” he laughed. “It doesn’t make any sense.”
Carrey joked it’s all about maintaining balance. l
