Various programmes undertaken to mark Rebel Poet’s birth anniv

The 118th birth anniversary of the Rebel Poet (Bidrohi Kobi) Kazi Nazrul Islam will be observed today in a befitting manner across the country. The government has undertaken a massive programme to mark the birth anniversary of Nazrul at the national level.

This year, main programme of Nazrul’s birth anniversary celebration will be held in the capital. President Abdul Hamid will be present as the chief guest at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium today at 3.30 pm. Presided over by the Culture Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Nazrul Institute Trustee Board Chairman Emeritus Professor Rafiqul Islam will be present as special guest. Welcome speech will be given by the national poet’s granddaughter Khilkhil Kazi, while acting Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Ibraheem Hosein Khan will deliver the welcome speech. 
The theme of birth anniversary celebration of the national poet of this year is ‘Soldier Nazrul Islam against anti-imperialism and colonialism’. Professor Soumitra Shekhar will address a speech on this topic at the inauguration session.
After the discussion part, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Nazrul Institute will arrange a 30-minute cultural programme at the inauguration ceremony.
On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the national poet, on behalf of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and its attached organizations, floral wreaths will be placed at the poet’s graveyard at Dhaka University premises today at 6:30 am.
Nazrul Institute and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will organise separate discussion and cultural programmes on this occasion. Presided over by BSA secretary Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury, professor Dr Karunamoy Goswami will attend as a main discussant at the National Theatre Hall of BSA today at 6:30pm. 
The cultural programme of BSA will feature group dances, solo music and recitations. Popular singers Khilkhil Kazi, Fatema Tuz Zohra, Sumon Chowdhury, Shahid Kabir Polash, Rebeka Sultana, Bijon Mistri, Leena Taposhi Khan and others will perform at the event, while Mohidul Islam and Laila Afroz will recite poems. 
National poet’s 118th birth anniversary will also be celebrated in the different places outside Dhaka, such as Trishal of  Mymensingh, Daulatpur of Comilla and in Chittagong by the arrangement of local administration.
Nazrul Institute will publish souvenir and posters on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the national poet and will organise an exhibition with the poet’ photos, poster and book to introduce Kazi Nazrul Islam to the new generation. Department of Public Library will organise book exhibitions, reading competition and essay competition.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will produce a documentary collecting the videos about the national poet which will be telecasted on the TV channels, specially collecting the videos of the national poet with the Father of the Nation. 
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other TV and radio stations will broadcast different programmes on Nazrul birth anniversary today.
