Kushtia cop gets 6-month jail for second marriage

A member of Criminal Investigation Department(CID) of police was sentenced to six months jail yesterday for marrying second time without taking permission of first wife, reports UNB from Kushtia.
The convict cop is Sub-inspector Towhidul Islam of Jessore CID and son of late Samsuddin Biswas, hailing from Nagar Saota village in Kumarkhali upazila.
The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate FM Mezbaul Haque passed the order in the afternoon.
According to the complaint, Towhidul got married with Lutfunnahar Runa of Lahinpara village of Kumarkhali upazila in 1990.
Runa filed the case under Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, 1961, against her husband in 2010 when the cop married another woman without taking her permission.
The court also fined Towhidul Tk 2,000, in default he must serve two more months at jail.
