Four get life term for murder

JHALAKATHI: A court in the district yesterday sentenced four people to life-term imprisonment for killing a man seven years back, reports BSS.
District and Sessions Judge Md Bozlur Rahman passed the order against Md Shahid Haolader, Paresh Kapali, Sidur Rahman Dulal and Nazimur Rahman Monto.
The court also fined Tk 10,000 each of the convict.
According to the prosecution, Abdur Rob went missing from his village Tarabunia on October 8 in 2010. Police recovered his body from a nearby water body on October 22. Moina Begum, wife of slain Abdur Rob, filled a murder case with Rajapur police station against two people following the incident. On October 26, police submitted a charge sheet against the four people.
Testifying evidences and witnesses the judge ordered the verdict today in presence of three convicts as Nazimur Rahman Monto is at large.

33 arrested in Dinajpur
DINAJPUR: Police, in special drives from Tuesday night to yesterday morning, arrested 33 persons including four activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, an activist of BNP and three drug traders, and recovered 350 bottles of Phensidyl syrup and 750 liters of locally made liquor from 10 upazilas of the district, reports BSS.
Sources with the district police said, during the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested five persons including four Jamaat activists, Khansama Thana police three, Kaharole police three, Hakimpur police four persons including the drug traders, Birampur police arrested three, Phulbari police one, Ghoraghat police the BNP activist, Bochaganj police two, Birganj police five and Chirirbandar police six persons.

Man electrocuted in Narail
NARAIL: A grocery shop owner was electrocuted at Gandob village under Lohagara upazila of the district yesterday noon, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Mamun Sheikh, 36, son of Manik Sheikh, a resident of the same village. Police said Mamun was seriously injured as he got electric shock at his house while he was repairing an electric line. Mamun was sent to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex where on duty doctor declared him dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Thana Jahangir Alam confirmed the incident.
