Man ‘kills wife’ in Sylhet
A woman was killed allegedly by her husband over a family feud at Mandaruka village in Sylhet yesterday morning.
The victim was identified as Masheda Begum, 35, wife of Jitu Miah, a resident of the same area.
Quoting the locals, Officer-in-Charge of Biswanath Thana Monirul Islam said the couple locked into an altercation over a family matter yesterday morning.
At one stage of their altercation Jitu chopped Masheda with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured. Locals rescued Masheda and sent to Osmani Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The couple used to quarrel on different issues, the OC said.

Road accident kills two 
Two people, including a minor boy, were killed and three others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Sylhet on Tuesday.
The victims are identified as Adil, o4, hailed from the Muminkhala village of the upazila and Marzan, 19, a resident of Jagannathpur upazila. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dakkhin Surma Thana Harun-or-Rashid said the accident occurred when a micro bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Tetli Bazar area, leaving five seriously injured on the spot.
The wounded were admitted to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital by the locals where Adil and Marzan succumbed to their injuries.

Indian liquor seized 
Police in a drive recovered 900 bottles of Indian wine from Shiber Bazar in Sylhet city on Tuesday night.
Jedan Al Musa, additional deputy-commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said a patrol team of police recovered the consignment of wine chasing the smugglers around 8 pm.
However, the smugglers managed to flee the scene.

Fire drill held at Ctg airport
A drill was held on the premises of Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong on Tuesday with a view to building capacity of its staff as well as passengers to deal with any fire-related incident.
Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authorities hosted the mock emergency exercise in the afternoon. During the fire drill, volunteers who played as the representatives of Air Force, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Coast Guard personnel, Police, Ansar members and BNCC personnel displayed their skills in dousing a fire, rescuing trapped people and providing first aid for the injured people.
A total of 57 volunteers took part in the drill.

Meeting on security held
The district police on Tuesday decided to ensure peaceful law and order during the holy Ramadan through setting up of close circuit (CC) cameras at all business centres, police boxes and special traffic management in Rangpur city.
The decision was taken at a special meeting organised by the district police administration with the business community leaders, civil society members and local elite at conference room of the Police Superintendent in the city. Superintendent of Police (SP) Mizanur Rahman presided over the meeting arranged for maintaining law and order, ensuring smooth movement of people and supply of essentials, preventing adulterated food items, drug, theft and mugging during the Ramadan.

‘End violence against women’
Prevention of all sorts of violence against women has become crucial to flourish their talent and leadership in the society to attain sustainable development goals (SDGs) in building a developed nation.
The opinion came yesterday at an experience sharing workshop on 'Reducing Violence against Women (RVAW) Programme' organised by Asia Foundation under the 'Islam Project in Preventing Torture against Females' at Sadar upazila parisahd auditorium in Rangpur city. 
The Sadar upazila administration assisted in arranging the event participated by government and NGO officials, public representatives, teachers, Imams, Islami Thinkers, members of law enforcement agencies, professionals and journalists.
