JU student beaten by ‘BCL men’

A student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) was allegedly beaten up by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of JU unit leaders over a trifling matter on Tuesday night. 

The injured student was identified as Obaidullah Al Galib, a masters’ student of Economics department and resident of Shaheed Salam Barkat (SSB) Hall. Source said, Deputy Health and Treatment affairs secretary of BCL JU unit Md. Arif Ahmed went to Galib’s room to collect donation for a female student who has been suffering from a life-threatening disease. But, he engaged in alteration with Galib over trifling matter and left the place. 
After half an hour, Arif came back to the room along with Information and Technology Affairs Secretary Md Abdullah Al Mahbub, Assistant Secretary Hasan Istiak Ridoy and forced him to go with them another room and beat him up mercilessly with sticks and iron rods.
In this regard, Galib submitted a written complaint to the Hall Provost for seeking justice.
One of the attackers, BCL leader Arif said, “It was a misunderstanding. But it has been negotiated’.     When contacted, Provost of Shaheed Salam Barkat (SSB) Hall Prof Kabirul Bashar said, “After getting the written complaint, I called them and negotiated the matter with the presence of teachers, journalists and other BCL leaders.”
