Kitchen market monitoring begins in Ctg

CHITTAGONG: District administration yesterday started its monitoring at different kitchen markets here to keep prices of essential commodities stable, reports BSS.
On the first day, the monitoring teams visited different kitchen markets, including city's Kazir Dwery and Reazauddin Bazaar. Six monitoring teams, each led by an executive magistrate, inquired about the prices of essentials in the markets, talked to traders and consumers and sought cooperation from people of different professions to keep the price of essentials stable during the holy month of Ramadan, said Executive Magistrate Morad Ali.
They also inquired about whether the traders were selling goods to the customers following price list, or not, he added.
They also sought cooperation from wholesale and retail traders to keep the prices of daily-needed goods at an affordable level and called upon them to make less profit considering the plights of common people. “Prices of a number of essential commodities and much-consumed vegetables have started declining in the port city following intensive monitoring programme and market intervening mechanism by the government,” he further added.
Administration sources said a total of six market monitoring teams, each led by a magistrate and consisting of representatives from government administration, trade bodies and law-enforcement agencies, every day visit extensively 17 retail markets and two wholesale commodity business hubs of the port city. The teams will continue to visit different shopping malls, super shops and wholesale cloths markets during upcoming Ramadan, the source added.
