Man to die for killing youth

A court in Chandpur on Monday convicted sentenced a man to death for killing a young man in a moving train in Chitoshi area of the district in 2013.
The court fined the condemned convict, Sadhon Hossain Kazi, 28, of Kathali (Dighirpara) area of Hajiganj upazila, Tk 5,000.
According to prosecution, Sadhon strangulated Monir Hossain, 25, in the train on February 6, 2013 over previous enmity. Later, Monir was buried as an unidentified person.
A month later, Monir’s brother Amir Hossain identified him seeing his photo.
Then, he filed a case against Sadhon with Chandpur Railway Police Station.
After examining all the records and nine witnesses, Chandpur District ad Sessions Judge Md Saleh Uddin handed down the verdict.
Minor girl ‘raped’ in Jessore
Jessore: A five-year-old girl was violated allegedly by a young man at Ramnagar in Sadar upazila on Monday, reports UNB.
The victim’s father said neighbour Jihad, son of late Ali Hossain, took the girl to his house at noon and raped her.
As the girl was not found for long time, they started searching for her and discovered her at Jihad’s house in the evening when she was bleeding, he said.
Later, she was admitted to Sadar Hospital, said the victims’ father.Tahmina Yeasmin, a physician of the hospital, said they collected samples from the victim’s body and sent those to laboratory for test.
6 minors drown in 3 districts
Six minor children met their watery burial in separate incidents in Sunamganj, Faridpur and Chuadanga districts on Monday, reports UNB.
In Sunamganj, two minor siblings drowned in Jadukata river in Tahirpur upazila in the evening.
The deceased were identified as Mahfuz Alam, 5, and Arzina Begum, children of Jamal Uddin of Laurergarh village. They were students of Class-1 and Class III respectively of Laurergarh Government Primary School.
Quoting family members, Sub-Inspector Ajoy Roy of Badaghat Police Investigation Centre said they went to the river near their house to take a bath and drowned.
Later, locals recovered the bodies from the river, the SI added.
In Faridpur, Khadiza, 8, daughter of Rasel Mazumdar, and Jamal Mazumdar, 11, son of Rezaul Mazumdar of Darmadi village in Nagarkanda upazila, drowned in the Kumar river during bathing in the afternoon.
Later, locals noticed their floating bodies and recovered them, said Nagarkanda Police Station OC Nasim Hossain.
In Chuadanga, two schoolgirls drowned in the Mathabhanga River at Pirpur village in Damurhuda upazila on Monday evening.
Lamiya, 10, daughter of Harun-or Rashid, Yasmin Khatun, 11, daughter of Sontu Miah, students of Chuadanga Provati School, drowned in the river around 5pm while they were taking bath, said Abdus Salam, a deputy-director at Chuadanga Fire Service.
On information, divers from the fire service station rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies in the evening, Salam added.
JCD leader among three held
Benapole: Police arrested three people, including a leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), at Baliadanga in the district town early yesterday, reports UNB.
Anindya Islam Amit, assistant organising secretary of BNP central committee, said a team of police cordoned off the house of Nazmul Hossain Babul, general secretary of JCD of district unit, around 2:20am.
Later, they broke into the house and arrested Babul, his brother Sumon and father-in-law, said the BNP leader.
Road crash kills 2 children

Two kindergarten students were killed as a brick-laden trolley hit a motorbike in Bottola area in Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur district yesterday morning. The deceased were identified as Zihad, 7, and Nusrat, 8, both are students of a local kindergarten school of the upazila.
Police sources said Ripon Khan was returning home with his daughter Nusrat and nephew Zihad from the school by a motorcycle. As the bike reached in the area at about 11 am the trolley rammed the motorbike, leaving the children seriously injured.
