Jamal, MSC eyeing semifinal berth

Sports Reporter

Both the Mohammedan Sporting Club and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club eyeing to make a room in the semifinal of the Walton Federation Cup football when they will face each other today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium at 6pm.

Mohammedan Sporting Club have been suffering from a title draught for a long when they emerged the champions of the Federation Cup last time in 2009, since then they could not taste even the runners-up trophy of the league or Fed Cup.
On the other hands, it would be another drive for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to win the Federation Cup for fourth time when they won Fed Cup trophy for third times in 2009, 2013 and 2013-14.
Jamal moved into the quarterfinal as Group B champions when they finished the first phase as the table toppers but won the group last match by tie breaker after drew the scheduled 90 minutes on goalless draw against Sheikh Russel.
Mohammedan Sporting Club clinched the second spot of Group C to make a room among the last eights.
However, today Jamal will play the quarterfinal match with some setbacks when seven to eight players have been suffering from fever and at least four players of the starting line up will not be available for the match.
But the manager of Jamal Anwarul Karim Helal was a bit confident to continue their run to move into the semifinal when he said that the players will available in the first 11 today are good enough to fight for the victory.
“No problem, we have 34 players in our camp, we recruited them considering their quality, so who will replace the sick players are also capable to win the match.”
“In fact, what I think the differences are very little between the players we pick up for the starting line up or selected for replacement with the players usually waiting to have chance to play,” Helal replied to a query.
“With due respect to opponents, hopefully we will win the match, you see, Mohammedan is a brand, the weight of their jersey is huge, but our young side have the ability to defeat Mohammedan,” said the former booters Helal.
Mohammedan Sporting Club, who looked a serious to get rid of their long time failures, formed a formidable team and appointed the veteran coach in the subcontinent Syed Nayeemuddin of India.
With the new looked squad under the guidance of Nayeemuddin, Mohammedan crossed the group phase hurdle with a win against Arambagh Krira Sangha, was enough to ensure the quarterfinal, though, conceded a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Chittagong Abahani Limited.
But the traditional Black and White looked better side that they were in previous season when they had to struggle to save the relegation and might be looking forward to go far, as bunch of experienced players, led by former national captain Emily, Mamun Khan, Nasir, Linkon, Mithun Chowdhury, Faisal Mahmud, Komol and Sharif are in the squad.
