Abahani confident of defending title: Mithun

The competition for the championship of Dhaka Premier League (DPL) will start at three different venues outside of Dhaka today.
Defending champion Abahani Limited square up to Prime Bank Cricket Club in the opening day encounter of the Super League of the DPL at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) ground-4.
Elsewhere, at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, league leaders Gazi Group Cricketers will face off Mohammedan Sporting Club, whilst Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club will lock horns with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at the BKSP ground-3.
All the matches will kick off 9am. Each team held their pre-match day training session to hone their skills and techniques. Abahani and Mohammedan did their practice at the BCB-National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground.
Abahani skipper Mohammad Mithun said that the way they are performing if they could continue it in the super league, it would since be possible to defend the title.
If we look at the points table, we all then get to see that four teams are very close in title race. The difference of point among the teams is just two, said Mohammad Mithun.
Actually the league is open for all. The teams in the Super League are better sides. A team can beat any team. In that case, the teams who could play better cricket will be winners, Mithun told media after the end of their practice session.
Weve confident of defending the title as weve been playing better cricket though we lost three matches in the first phase of the league. So far our tournament for us goes on well, he added.
Wicketkeeper-batsman said that young players are their key strength who have been batting and fielding well in the existing heated condition.
Our maximum players are younger, whose strength and energy level are in good stead in this heated condition. Along with that, were a bit ahead of fielding. Our batsmen are in good shape. If we could maintain this then we are hopeful that we will be able to defend the title, the captain said.
Weve nothing to be worried as batsmen are in good touch. If they could perform in this way then there will be nothing problem with them. And if they could do worse then it would be a thing of worrying, he also said.
In that case, bowlers have to come up with better performance. It is not possible for batsmen to score 300-plus runs daily. Bowlers have been working with this but they could not deliver this yet. Hopefully they could do it in Super League phase, he added.
He said that he will try his possible best what he could not yet to showcase.
Yet I could not deliver my best performance. As of now our batsmen are performing very well, my batting order is a bat later, so I could not get chance to bat in that way. Ill try my best to fare well in Super League, he said of his own performance.
Actually its not that. Batting order is important. Im batting at number five. Our top-order batsmen are batting so well that I get to bat only seven or eight overs. There is nothing more to showcase in these overs. Im trying my best to do better further, he signed off.
