Reiterating that sufficient essential commodities are in store, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday again ruled out any scope of price hike or artificial crisis of commodities during the holy month of Ramadan, reports BSS.
"Sufficient sugar, gram, edible oil, lentil and date along with other items have been imported against the demand, stern action will be taken for any move of manipulation in the market," he said.
The minister passed the remarks while talking to journalists after a meeting with Brunei Ambassador Hajah Masurai Binti Haji Masri at his secretariat office in the capital.
He suggested buy of essential commodities normally from the market rather accumulating more items at a time before the Ramadan.
The minister also urged the media to play crucial and responsible role in stabilizing market not spreading propaganda.
Referring to the TCB's open market sale of essential commodities, Tofail said the government has taken all types of steps, including monitoring, to keep the market stable.
He also requested traders to play responsible role in lessening suffering of consumers.
Additional Secretary Munshi Shafiul Huq and WTO Cell Director General Munir Chowdhury were present.
