DU to celebrate Nazruls birth anniversary
Dhaka University (DU) authorities have chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the 118th birth anniversary of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on May 25.
Teachers, students and employees of the DU led by Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique will gather at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla at 6:15am and place wreaths at the poets mazar located besides Central Mosque on the campus at about 6:30am. Later, a commemorative meeting will be held on mazar premises with DU VC in the chair, said a DU press release here yesterday. Besides, DU Club will arrange a cultural function titled Rabindra-Nazrul Sangskritik Sandha at 7 pm on the campus, the release added.
JU zoology dept opens DNA lab
SAVAR: DNA Laboratory of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Zoology Department was inaugurated yesterday at the Wazed Miah Science Research Centre on the campus.
JU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Farzana Islam inaugurated the laboratory as the chief guest. JU Pro-VC Prof Abul Hossain, Treasurer Prof Abul Khair, Biological Science Faculty Dean Prof Abdul Zabber Hawlader and Zoology Department Chairman Prof Manwar Hossain were present on the occasion. The laboratory has been set up with financial assistance of the World Bank.
UNESCO representative Kaldun calls on DU VC
UNESCO Representative in Dhaka Beatrice Kaldun yesterday paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique at his office on the campus.
DU Theatre and Performance Studies Department Chairman Sudip Chakraborti and Programme Officer of UNESCO Dhaka Office Kizzy Tahnin were present at the meeting. During the meeting, they discussed the possibilities of establishment of UNESCO Chair at DU to develop academic and cultural relationship and further strengthen international cooperation between DU and other universities of the world. They expressed keen interest to sign a memorandum of understanding in this regard soon. The possibilities of undertaking joint academic and research programs were also discussed in the meeting.
DU seeks WB support to modernise Meteorology Department
Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique yesterday sought World Banks (WB) cooperation to modernize its newly launched Meteorology Department.
The VC sought the support when World Bank Senior Environment Specialist Poonam Pillai paid a courtesy call on him at his office on the campus, said a DU press release here. Poonam Pillai expressed her willingness to provide support and cooperation in this regard.
DU Meteorology Department Chairman Prof Towhida Rashid was present at the meeting. During the meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest specially, climate change and disaster management issues in Bangladesh.
Professor Arefin Siddique thanked the World Bank representative for her visit to Dhaka University.
IUB Alumni Job Fair 2017 held
The Office of the Career Guidance and Placement of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a daylong Alumni Job Fair 2017 on Tuesday for its students and graduates at universitys own campus at Bashundhara in the capital. Rashed Chowdhury, chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, inaugurated the fair as the chief guest.
IUB alumni who have now become entrepreneurs and employers participated in the job fair. This has been unique and first ever of its kind where all participating organisations are owned, managed and directed exclusively by IUB Alumni.
Prof M Omar Rahman, vice-chancellor, IUB; Prof Milan Pagon, pro-vice chancellor, IUB Md Abdullah Iqbal, deputy director, Career Guidance and Placement, IUB and 20 IUB alumni and presently the owners of various companies introduced themselves and spoke during the inaugural ceremony . A total number of 34 companies and organisations took part in the job fair. They presented 38 different stalls, collected CVs and offered jobs to IUB graduates.
