Chandrika meets Speaker
Former Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga met Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at her office in the Jatiya Sangsad on Monday, reports UNB.
During the meeting, they discussed different issues of mutual interest, including economic empowerment of women, women education, parliamentary business, gender equity and socio-economic status of both the countries.
Dr Shirin Sharmin, also Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, said Bangladesh is a country of peace and communal harmony. People from all religions live here maintaining communal harmony.
Chandrika Kumaratunga hoped that the ties between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be strengthened further in the future, said a Parliament Secretariat release.
Election to BWCA held
The 33rd biennial general meeting and elections of executive committee of the Bangladesh Work Camps Association (BWCA) was held recently
at its auditorium at North Shajahanpur in the capital, says a press release.
The meeting was presided over by its president Dr Muzaffar Ahmed. General Secretary Salim Ahmed presented the biennial activities report of the association.
During the last two years a good number motivational campaign, symposium and number of local and international work camps were organised in VTC (Volunteers Training Center) and around Ujgram, Bogra, the meeting was told. A 21-member executive committee were elected in the meeting while Dr Muzaffar Ahmed and Salim Ahmed were reelected as president and general secretary respectively of BWCA for the term 2017-18 and 2018- 19. The other elected members are Vice-presidents Md Rezaul Hoque Bhuyan, Neamat Ullah and Shafiur Rahman, Jt Secretaries Rokeya Sultana and Shamsul Hoque Akond, Treasurer Zakirul Islam Akul and Organising Secretary Abdur Rahman respectively.
