Eminent Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya received Banga Bhushan award at a special award ceremony in Kolkata on Saturday. The title ‘Banga Bhushan’ is instituted by the West Bengal Government to honour the services of personalities in various fields. Bannya received the award from the hand of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the award ceremony at Nazrul Mancha in South Kolkata. The singer was greeted with an ‘uttorio’ (scarf) and also given a certificate at the programme.
At the same programme, Mamata Banerjee in a star-studded event handed over Banga Bibhushan award to Soumitra Chatterjee on Saturday evening. She also handed over Banga Bibhushan award to poet Nirendranath Chakraborty. There were three Banga Bibhushan awardees and eight Banga Bhushan awardees in total.
Noted Rabindra Sangeet exponent Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya has set up a new trend in Rabindra Sangeet in Bangladesh inspiring the young generations to read Tagore and sing his songs.
To note, celebrated Nazrul Sangeet artiste Feroza Begum was the only person from Bangladesh who received Bangabibhushan, the highest state honour, posthumously in 2015. l
