CCDM rules out two foreign players in DPL super league

Sports Reporter

Amin Khan, coordinator of Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM), dismissed the possibility of playing two foreign players in the Super League phase of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), stating that each team will field one overseas player in their match or matches.

Bangladesh’s national pool players are now in Ireland to play the tri-angular series with New Zealand and the host country ahead of their ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England and Wales.
Capitalising the chance of the national pool players’ absence, the CCDM wanted to allow two overseas players in the Super League so that the competition in this phase could be increased. But No clubs showed their interest in it. So, their main target is to finish the league as early as possible.
“We’ve information that the players are suffering due to the ongoing heat wave. So it would be better for us to finish the Super League as soon as possible,” said Amin Khan.
“No clubs apply to us for playing two foreign players in the Super League. They are satisfied with the way we finishing the first phase of the league,” Khan told media.
A total of four teams including League leaders Gazi Group Cricketers, Abahani Limited, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club and Prime Bank Cricket Club confirmed the Super League spots. In the last day, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Mohammedan Sporting Club as the fifth and sixth teams sealed their berths. Sheikh Jamal ensured their place thrashing Mohammedan SC in the high-scoring match at BKSP-3. After losing the match, the points of Mohammedan and Legends of Rupganj became the same. But the former superseded the latter due to better head-to-head performance.
Dhaka Premier League for the 2016-2017 season had begun since April 12 with the participation of 12 teams. The first phase of the DPL has been finished yesterday. Two teams will be demoted to first division. The relegation will be held with the participation of the three bottom-placed teams, which are Victoria Sporting Club, Partex Sporting Club and Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity.  “The relegation matches may be played in the gap of the Super League matches or it will be held after the conclusion of the Super League,” Amin said while he was asked.
