Shipping Corporation to get new 6 ships by 2018
Six new ships will be added with Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) by 2018, said an official release in Dhaka yesterday.
The ships would be bought from China National Import and Export Machineries Corporation (CMC) at a cost of Tk 1,843 crore.
Each ship will have 39,000 tonnes capacity. The six ships - three oil tankers and three bulk carriers - will be added with Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) by 2018, the release added quoting Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan as he confirmed this after returning home from China last night.
A three-member delegation led by the minister went to china on May 15 to join the plate cutting ceremony of the ships there, the release added.
The other members of the delegation were Additional Secretary of the Shipping Ministry M Abdul Kuddus Khan and Executive Director (technical) of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation M Sayed Ullah.
Of the total procurement cost, Tk1,448 crore will come from Chinese government as loan while the rest Taka 395 crore will come from BSCs own fund.
