Sheikh Russel digital lab opens at DU
Sheikh Russel Digital Lab was inaugurated at mass communication and journalism department of Dhaka University (DU) on Thursday with the help of ICT Division of the government.
Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the lab at 3pm while Prof Mofizur Rahman, chairman of mass communication and journalism department, and other teachers were present.
Prof Mofizur Rahman said, “ICT department donated 10 computers while university authority donated 15 computers and now students will get digital facilities by which they can cope up with the digital media industry.”
DU gets ‘Uday Shankar Library’
A renovated reading room-cum-library hall, named after Uday Shankar, was inaugurated at Dhaka University's Dance Department on Thursday.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla, DU Pro-VC (Education) Prof Nasrin Ahmad and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman and Head of the Dance Department Prof Rezwana Choudhury Bannya also spoke at the function.
The Indian High Commissioner said India will remain supportive to the Dhaka University. "And our support, especially to the dance, music, art and Hindi departments, will continue."
He hoped that the inauguration of the new facilities at the Dance Department will be very useful for students to hone their skill and talents in their chosen fields of art.
Uday Shankar was the pioneer of modern dance in India. With his family roots in Bangladesh, he attained great heights in his career. His work was critically acclaimed all over the world. The hall named after him will inspire the students to achieve similar success in their respective careers.
Prof Arefin Siddique said Bangladesh and India will have to work together to promote the art and culture of the two countries.
Seminar on Persian language held at DU
A daylong programme to pay tribute to world-famous Iranian epic poet Hakim Abulqasem Ferdousi and pay homage to the Persian language was held on Thursday at the RC Majumder Hall of Dhaka University (DU).
Iranian Cultural Centre (ICC), Dhaka and the department of Persian Language and Literature of DU jointly organised the seminar.
Iranian ambassador Abbas Vaezi Dehnavi in Dhaka was present as the special guest in the programme.
In his speech, Dehnavi said those who are familiar with the history of Iranian literature know very well that if the name of Ferdousi, not only a poet but also a conservator of Persian Language, does not be pronounced, it will be tantamount to deny the main contributor who enriched this language with his extra-ordinary talent in literature.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Dr M Akhtaruzzaman also presided over the inaugural session. Cultural counselor of ICC Sayed Mousa Hosseini delivered the welcome address while Chairperson of the DU Persian Language and Literature department Dr Abdus Sabur Khan delivered vote of thanks.
An academic session was held at the same day after the inaugural session while four papers over Persian language were presented.
Iranian Ambassador Dr. Abbas Vaezi Dehnavi, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of DU Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman and Dean of the Faculty of Arts of DU Professor Dr. Abu Md. Delwar Hosain jointly opened Persian Language Lab before the formal inauguration.
RU goes on 36-day vacation from May 27
RAJSHAHI: The Rajshahi University (RU) will go on a 36-day vacation from May 27 on the occasion of Summer season, holy Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr and would be continued till July 24. RU Public Relation Officer Prof Mosiur Rahman confirmed the matter through a press release yesterday.
All the regular classes and examinations would remain close during the period while all academic activities will be resumed on July 01. However, admiration office and other offices of the campus would continue their activities till June 19 and it would be closed on June 20 to 29, he added his release.
Hall provost council president and also Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall Provost Prof Dr Anisur Rahman said all residential halls and dormitories would remain opened for the students.
