One killed over land dispute
Sunamganj: A youth was killed and 15 others sustained injuries in a clash over land in Jauya area of Chhatak upazila on Thursday morning, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Hafiz Abu Sayed, 25, son of Abdul Qaiyum, a resident of Habidpur village of the upazila.
M Barkatullah Khan, Superintendent of Police in Sunamganj, said there was a long-standing dispute between Abdul Wadud of Jauyabazar Kunapara and Abdul Kahar of Habidpur village over land properties. Sequel to the dispute, the groups locked into an altercation around 11am. At one stage, both groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, leaving 16 including Hafiz injured. Later, the injured were rushed to Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet where Hafiz succumbed to his injuries, SP Barkatullah added.


159 houses brought under power network in Natore
NATORE: A total of 159 houses under Naldanga Upazila of the district have been brought under the rural electrification network by Natore Palli Biddyut Samity-1, reports BSS. Md. Shafiqul Islam Shimul, local lawmaker and General Secretary of District Awami League, formally inaugurated the new connection line as the chief guest at a function held at the premises of Brammapur Government Primary School on Wednesday evening.
Assistant General Manager of Natore Palli Biddyut Samity-1 Nur-E-Alam, Mayor of Naldanga Pourashava Shafir Uddin Mondol, Joint Secretary of District Awami League Syed Murtuza Ali Bablu, General Secretary of Upazila Awami League S.M. Firoz, Brammapur Union Parishad Chairman Hafizur Rahman also spoke on the occasion while Union Awami League President Tauhidur Rahman chaired the function. Natore Palli Biddyut Samity implemented the programme at a cost of Taka 98.83 lakh.


Early marriage bid foiled
HABIGANJ: Bahubal Model Thana police foiled an early marriage at Jangalia village under Bahubal upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS. The marriage of schoolgirl Tania, 15, daughter of Faruk Miah of the village, was scheduled to be solemnized today.
Officer-in-Charge of Bahubal Thana M Moniruzzaman being informed about the child marriage rushed to the residence of Tania and stopped the early marriage, said UNO Jasim Uddin. Tania is a student of class ten of a secondary school. Later, the OC successfully convinced the parents of the bride and the bridegroom to refrain from child marriage. He also briefed them about the bad effects of early marriage.


Two held with arms, ammo
LAXMIPUR: Police in a drive arrested two persons with a gun and two rounds of bullets from Chandraganj Thana of the district yesterday, reports BSS. The arrestees are Md Russel alias Kala Russel and Md Bablu. Russel is accused of a number of cases with Chandraganj and Chatkhil Thana.
Officer-in-Charge of Chandraganj Thana Muktar Hossain said on information they conducted a raid at an abandoned house at Uttar Joypur village and arrested them with a gun, bullets and yaba tablets.


Farmers get loans without security

A reputed NGO RDRS Bangladesh distributed Tk 3,20,000 as  easy term agriculture loan among 20 marginal farmers through Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank at Hafizabad union in Panchagarh sadar upazila yesterday. Manager of Panchagarh branch of RAKUB Solaiman Ali attended the function held at Uttar Dowlapara village and disbursed agri-loans as the chief guest with chairman of Hafizabad Union Parishad Musa Karimullah in the chair.
Lauding the initiative, the chief guest suggested the loan recipient farmers and sharecroppers for ensuring best use of the money in increasing production of vegetables and other crops to improve their livelihoods and economic condition.
