Beheaded body found
Police recovered the beheaded body of a man early Thursday from Khilgaon area of the capital.
The identity of the deceased was not available immediately.Officer-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station Kazi Naimul Islam said around 2am they recovered the body inside a plastic bag beside a road near Khidmah Hospital.
The victim was wearing a blue shirt and jeans, he said.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
RMG worker gang raped
A female readymade garment (RMG) worker was allegedly gang raped by miscreants at Hemayetpur in Savar on Tuesday night.
The girl, hailing from Chandpur village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district, used to work at Amtranet Garments in Rajashan area of Savar and live in a rented house in Road Bazar area of Savar. The victim told UNB that she made friendship with a youth, Rakib, over mobile phone recently. Rakib tactfully took the 22-yearl-old girl to a house in Hemayetpur on Tuesday night where he along with his three cohorts violated her in turns throughout the night.
ACC holds special meeting
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) held a special meeting on Wednesday to clean up its own house as it received allegations of corruption against its own warriors.
The Commission recently received at least 15 serious graft allegations against the officials of its head office and district and divisional offices, a top official at the ACC told UNB wishing not be named.
Against the backdrop, the Commissions Internal Corruption Prevention Committee held a meeting at its head office with ACC chairman Iqbal Mahmood in the chair.
2 Ctg BNP leaders relieved
BNP Chittagong south unit general secretary Gazi Shahjahan Jewel and its Chittagong north unit member secretary Qazi Abdullah Al Hasan have been temporarily relieved of all level party posts.
The punitive action was taken against them following a specific allegation of their involvement in activities that go against the party discipline, said a press release on Wednesday. It also said the duo will not be able to engage in any organisational activities of the party from now on.
Besides, BNPs organising secretary (Chittagong division) Mahbubur Rahman Shamim has been directed to carry out his duty properly with caution.
Drugs carrier gets life term
A trial tribunal in Rajshahi on Thursday sentenced a person to life imprisonment on charge of carrying drugs.
The convict identified as Mehedi Hassan, 23, son of Jamal Uddin of Raghunathpur under Godagari upazila in the district, was also fined Taka 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more behind the bars. Judge of Special Tribunal against Women and Child Repression Monsur Alam found the convict guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict in his presence.
7 factories fined Tk 34 lakh
The Department of Environment (DoE) on Wednesday fined seven factories Tk 34 lakh for polluting the environment in Dhaka, Narayanganj and Narsingdi.
As part of the drive against the environment pollution, the DoE Director (Monitoring and Enforcement) slapped the fine on the factories, said a DoE release. The factories were harming the environment and ecology by releasing untreated liquid effluents. Besides, the factories were set up and run without taking environmental clearance.
Workshop held at UGC
A daylong workshop on Curriculum Format was held at University Grants Commission (UGC) Auditorium in Dhaka yesterday, reports BSS.
UGC in association with Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) organised the workshop while its Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan addressed it as the chief guest, said a UGC press release.
Presided over by UGC Member Prof Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, the workshop was attended by another UGC Member Prof Dil Afroza Begum.
