Iranian ambassador calls on DU VC
Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abbas Vaezi Dehnavi yesterday paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latters office on the campus.
DU Persian Language and Literature Department Chairman Prof Abdus Sabur Khan was present in the meeting, said a DU press release here.
During the meeting, they discussed the matters of mutual interest especially on-going joint academic and research programs between Dhaka University and Iranian universities. They exchanged views regarding how to strengthen the existing collaboration and friendly ties between DU and Iranian universities on Persian language education and research. They stressed the need for equipping students with humanitarian values and teachings of Iranian epic poet Hakim Abulqasem Ferdousi.
DU vice-chancellor Prof Arefin Siddique thanked Iranian envoy Dr Abbas Vaezi Dehnavi for his visit to Dhaka University and expressing keen interest in its Persian language and literature education, the release added.
IU goes on 39-day vacation from tomorrow
KUSHTIA: The Islamic University (IU) goes to 39-day vacation from Saturday on the occasion of Summer season, holy Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.
A university press release said here today, all the academic activities of the university will remain closed from May 20 to July 3 while the department authorities can take classes and examinations from May 20 to June 19 if they want.
The University authority will provide logistic support for holding classes and examinations during the vacations, the press release added.
Besides, all the administrative activities of the university will remain closed from May 20 to 27 on the occasion of summer season and from June 20 to July 3 on the occasion of holy Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr while the offices will continue from May 28 to June 19.
IU acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif told BSS, all the academic and administrative activities will resume on July 4 after ending the vacation.
All residential halls will remain closed on the occasions from June 20 to July 2 and will reopen on July 3, he added.
RU ISLM dept celebrates anniversary
The Information Science and Library Management department (ISLM) of Rajshahi University (RU) celebrated its first alumni programme and 24th founding anniversary amid great enthusiasm and festivity at the university campus yesterday.
Marking the day, the department has chalked out several programmes which include a colorful procession, discussion programme and cultural functions.
RU Vice-Chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the two day- programme by releasing pigeons and balloons as a chief guest in front of the Rabindra Arts Building around at 10.30 am.
Dean of Social Science Faculty Prof Faizur Rahman was the special guest where head of the department and convener of the programme Prof Partho Biplob Roy presided over it. Later, present and former students, teachers and officials of the department brought out a colorful procession from the department at 11 am that paraded the whole campus.
On the occasion, reminiscence program, captive cultural program will be held today at the university Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium.
