JU BCL man hurt by rival

An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit was allegedly beaten up by his rival group on the campus yesterday over previous enmity. 

The victim was identified as Syam Mohammed Arafat Hossain, a second year student of physics department and BCL activist of Mir Mosharraf Hossain (MMH) Hall. He is also the follower of JU unit president Jewel Rana.  He is suffering several injures and is now undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar. Witness said some 8 to 10 BCL activists, led by Syam and Dipu attacked Arafat at ‘Benzene Chatter’ beside the Central Shaheed Minar on the campus around 12.30pm.  The attackers --Syam and Dipu are residential students of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall (BBH) and loyal to JU BCL organisation secretary Shamim Mollah.  
Earlier, on Tuesday night, BCL activists of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and Mir Mosharraf Hossain (MMH) Hall locked in altercation over taking seat at the front row at Selim Al Deen Muktamanch during a concert. At one stage some junior men were allegedly beat up by Arafat (victim), source said. 
The other attackers were-- Nazmul of philosophy department, Sabuz of chemistry, Murad of History, Shaikat of CSE, Nahid of International and Relations, Sakib of Mathematics, Mehedi of philosophy department and all are 45th batch students.  
However, it was not possible to reach the leading accused BCL activist by taking several attempts.
