The authorities of Bangabandhu Safari Park in Gazipur said two of its giraffes had died yesterday.
Acting manager of the park Mohammed Shahabuddin said these two giraffes of the park, about 6-year-old, became sick on Tuesday night suddenly. After that, the park authorities called experts for treating them, but the giraffes had died yesterday morning before the expert reached the park, he said.
However, the park authorities did not disclose any information to the media about the death of the giraffes.
Meanwhile, the locals claimed that the giraffes become sick due to negligence of the park authorities. After the incident, the park authorities closed the core Safari Park, a part of the main park, to the visitors. However, a five members committee was formed to probe the incident. The reason behind the death of girraf could not be known immediately.
Project director of the park Mohammed Samsul Azam said “We were not aware of any disease before they became ill. Now there are 8 Giraffes among 10 are remained at the park.”
The doctor of the park Mohammed Nizam Uddin could not be reached for comment.
