The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 yesterday issued warrant to arrest former BNP lawmaker from Adamdighi, Bogra, Abdul Momin Talukder for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity in 1971, reports BSS.
“The two-member tribunal issued the warrant against him. Talukder is needed to be put behind bars for the sake of proper investigation,” senior prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Simon told BSS.
According to the prosecution, Talukder was the commander of local Razakar Bahini and carried out mayhem in the locality along with his cohorts. “He is very influential person in his locality. His father was lawmaker for three times. He himself was lawmaker twice. His brother is the incumbent upazila chairman. So we are facing real trouble to carry out investigation against him,” Simon added.
The prosecutor said the probe body of the ICT launched its investigation against the BNP leader in January, 2016, and found his involvement in crimes like murder and genocide.
Another reports adds: Kishoreganj Razakar commander Moslem Prodhan yesterday filed an appeal with the apex court, challenging the sentence of death handed down to him by International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.
“We have filed the 1238-page appeal with the concerned department of the Supreme Court, seeking his acquittal from the charges on 56 grounds,” said advocate Abdus Sattar Palwan. The first tribunal on April 19, 2017, sentenced Moslem and his partner in crimes Syed Mohammad Hossain were sentenced to death for their monstrous crimes.
“The sentence of death awarded as above be executed by hanging the convicts by the neck or by shooting till their death, as decided by the government,” the verdict said.
Of the two, only Prodhan faced the trial in person and was present at the courtroom as the verdict was pronounced while Hussain earlier went into hiding as the process was launched to expose him to justice and believed to be in Malaysia right now.
Advocate Palwan defended both the convicts before the tribunal as he was engaged by Prodhan to defend his case, while the tribunal too appointed him as state defence counsel to move the case for the fugitive Hossain.
