Navy to clash with Army in final

All services teams will fight for the title of the ATN Bangla Gold Cup 31st National Hockey Championship when Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Army moved into the final defeating their respective opponents yesterday.
Held at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium, Bangladesh Army outplayed Dhaka DSA by 4-0 in the first semifinal and then  Bangladesh Navy had to struggle to beat Dhaka Education Board by 4-3 after coming back from behind.
However, Shafiqul Alam struck twice as Bangladesh Army did not face any trouble to overcome the semifinal hurdle when they led the first half by 2-0.
Pushkar Khisha Mimu sounded the board to lead the Army on 13th minute and just 10 minutes later Shafiqul Islam doubled the margin to end the first half on 2-0 lead.
Monoz Babu made the tally 3-0 on 45th minute while Shafiqul scored his second and the last one for the team on 64th (4-0).
But the top seeded  Bangladesh Navy, who scored 101 goals in the preliminary stage to storm into the knockout phase (quarterfinal) saw huge challenges to win against Dhaka Education Board in the semifinal.
Captain Russel Mahmud Jimi scored a couple of goals as the favourites survived with 4-3 win over Dhaka Education Board.  
The star-studded Navy saw the first upset in the very eighth minute when Promod converted a penalty corner to lead Dhaka Board and Shaon stunned the Navy men making the lead double on 22nd minute.
Training by two goals Navy respond strongly and snatching the match control and reducing first one through Jimi on 25th minute but had to finish the first session on 1-2.
After the short break both the sides made afresh when Navy were better in the possession and kept Dhaka Board under pressure levelled the margin when Koushik struck on 46th minute and two minutes later Jimi scored his second to lead the team (3-2).   
Rimong Kumar enlarged the margin for Navy on 60th minute to settle the fate of the match, though Prince Lal Samonto threatened with 67th minute strike but despite fighting throughout 70 minutes time and also leading the match in the early stage Dhaka Board had to bow out of the tournament.
